Spring Break!

We will finish Spring Break tomorrow. I wished I'd had the entire week to stay home, but we did not. We visited Pappy Mon. for his birthday and Rick's family the same day. His mom had a mini-stroke and we did not even get to celebrate Easter with them as we'd planned. Everyday this week we have had some outing or something going on. I am so looking forward to tomorrow with no plans and no errands. Madison and I will need to go out tomorrow evening for shoe shopping, but that's about all. I had thought I would have an entire week to do anything I wanted, but it turns out that there has been something everday. I dread going back next week, I have felt so free not worrying about homework or preparing for class. I have missed that time with my girls, though. It's so cool to think that we only have 2 months of school left and I hope we can enjoy summer. We looked at our garden spot and are planning on doing some new arrangement so we can use the space for a quiet oasis and sitting area for Mommy and Daddy and play area for our children. You wouldn't believe the space that is tucked away on our land behind our house. It is so wonderful to hear the birds singing this spring and to look at my mountain that God so graciously put in my porch's view. It will soon bloom with color and come alive and I will once again, be refreshed to be home in the mountains where people sit on their porch and slow down on Sundays. There's no place like these mountains, ahhh, can you feel the fresh air...

Happy Easter

This morning we awoke to cooler temperatures here in Big Stone Gap. It was so cold that we could not hide eggs outside, it felt just like a cool winter's day. I pray your day was blessed with your family. Since I cannot post pictures at this time, I'll just email them individually.

Excerpt from Above Rubies

This really touched my heart and encouraged me. My heart has always been at home and in the chaos, I wouldn't have it any other way. I thought this was worth posting. I read this excerpt from Above Rubies ministry.

As I pondered my “good old days when my nights were filled with joyful songs”, the Lord brought me to Titus 2:3-5. At that point, I saw CLEARLY why I had lost my joy (and my health). I had ceased doing what God had put on my heart to do.

I was looking for fulfillment in church ministry, when he had given me a ministry right in my own home. I had a husband to minister to, encourage, and love. I had children to train and disciple for the Lord. I had been neglecting this in order to do what I thought was “more important.”

Now, my heart has come home, and I am supremely joyful again. I am content with loving my husband and my children and being a keeper of the home. My health is better than it has been in years.

It is a ministry to serve your family. The Lord does not intend for you to do dozens of church ministries. His will is that you love your husband, ,your children and homemaking. (Titus 2:3-5 NIV).The older women weren’t told to train the younger women to attend all the Bible studies or do all the church activities, but to “love their husbands and children and be busy at home.” (Titus 2:3-5).

Actually, you do not even have to go out of your house for Bible study. I am currently working through Nancy Campbell’s The Power of Motherhood . It is excellent, eye-opening, and I highly recommend it. Waiting for me after I finish it is The Family Meal Table and Hospitality.

I believe that many women today are joyless, stressed, discouraged, sick, and exhausted because they are seeking to do that which God has not called them to do. Their spirits and their bodies are crying out to slow down their frantic pace and to put their whole heart into serving their families. Sadly, like me, they have been deceived into thinking that it is not ministry.

Motherhood is a ministry. There is no nothing more important you could be doing.

Spring is Blooming

Spring is blooming. Yesterday was so beautiful. We had an egg hunt with our homeschool friends, there were 9 kids in our yard(well one in a carrier) and two mommies :-) It was the warmest day I think we have had. Yesterday evening I was preparing dinner and Madison came in with something behind her back and said she had a surprise for me. She had walked up the hillside where we have Easter Lillies that bloom every year. No one planted them, I think the wind must have carried them from our neighbors. She had gathered 2 blooms and 2 that were not quite bloomed, gathered a vase, and put them in a vase and had them for me. She told me that she wanted me to be able to enjoy watching the others bloom. That was so thoughtful. This morning, the blooms had blossomed and I smiled when I saw them.

On another note, our dryer is torn up and when I called for service, the warranty center said it would be Tuesday. How in the world am I going to go without a dryer till next Tuesday with a potty trainer, 2 adults, and 3 other kids?!!! If you come to my home, don't be scared by the laundry that will be sitting on the chairs to air dry because that is all I have right now. We go through many towels and washcloths every day, I can't imagine how this is going to work. I have a baby gate against the wall, covered with clothes and a heater in front drying them, can' you see this picture?

We had another tornado warning tonight for Wise County. Some crazy weather we're seeing here. This is very unusual and odd. I've never known of a tornado hitting or being concerned. The rain has stopped and our warning has expired so I'll finish preparing for school and hopefully get some rest.

Happy early Easter.

Still Here!

I am still here, just not posting much. A lot going on. It was first just sickness and now life back to usual. A lot going on, birthday parties, school, lots of Easter celebrations, planning some trips, trying to prepare to finish and end-of the year testing. By the way, any suggestions, CAT or Iowa test? What do you think?

Well, I just finished preparing for school. Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day and I"m going to surprise my girls with cupcakes with green icing on a table in the school room; I'm giving them a surprise party! Can't wait to see their faces.

Have a blessed week!

Love ya,

Life finally back to normal

It has been a crazy, crazy last month! We were litereally sick the whole month of February. Never, have we been wiped out so bad. The good part is hopefully, we have built up a really good immunity to the nasty stomach virus. This morning it was daylight outside and birds were chirping. So sweet, such a nice sound to hear. Spring is finally making its appearance and we couldn't be happier. LIfe is good with being back to normal. I'm just thankful to be in the chaos of it again. The younger ones seem cranky and out of sorts with the time change. I think they may need to get out of the house so we might just go to our local library tomorrow. The roads are back open down that way. We have our Easter Party for the Homeschool group Friday and we're looking forward to that. We are hoping Pappy will join us and then we have a birthday party this weekend for my nephew and Pappy. Lots to look forward to.

Have a blessed week as you head to Tuesday Morning.

TORNADO has been confirmed...there was no warning

Here is a link with lots of pictures. You have to click on NEXT to see them. Streets are still blocked off and we cannot see our park or library, but there is a picture in our park and it looks like a huge disaster!

TORNADO in Big Stone Gap?!

This evening a storm hit Big Stone Gap... we'll know tomorrow if it was in fact a tornado. The storm damage stopped about 1 minute from our house. The girls and I were actually at the salon in Norton getting haircuts. The power went out and I had to leave the shop with a wet head and no hair cut. Luckily, the girls already had theirs finished. I get to go back Saturday alone and enjoy my beauty time ;-) We are fine, no damages here. Pray for others. The school across our road is being used as a shelter. This is a shock. More updates later...
